*BigGrocer is a virtual supermarket franchise network for Tier 2 and 3 cities. We are a disruptive distribution and logistics technology platform delivering outstanding customer experience. At the heart of our customer experience is a relationship based commerce (rCommerce) powered by pioneering technology *BigGrocer is creating a network of franchises that would offer a shared but dedicated service to households and help with ordering and home deliveries in a (micro-local) delivery range of 0.5 km. A franchise would be able to own a fully managed cloud hypermart of 5K items with zero investment, capital, space, inventory or staff to serve their customers *Besides the set of unique and deep consumer benefits and direct employment, BigGrocer will create sustainable and handsome income for 10 to 15 enterprising individuals (franchise) per pin code deriving the maximum leverage facilitated by modern-day technology
BigGrocer was started by Siddhartha Das and Sandeep Koul, both classmates from IIM Calcutta, Class of 2001. Initially launched as a customer acquisition and engagement platform for grocery (kirana) stores in India, BigGrocer went through multiple cycles of evolution seeking product market fit. BigGrocer has been launched in Agartala, Tripura witnessing significant organic traction and repeat engagements without any investment or expenditure into marketing or promotions.
*BigGrocer Franchise A general store is limited by capital, space & bandwidth constraints, earns 13% margin on sales, 5% net after expenses and costs. A BigGrocer franchise earns a similar 5% without any cost but, offers free home deliveries, 10X deeper catalog, better quality and 95% items on discount to 2X more customers. BigGrocer supplies to the franchises just-in-time and earns a 14% margin as compared to 7% by other B2B eCommerce players (e.g. Udaan) without having to hold or incur any warehousing costs.

Tell us a bit about how founding team knows each other.
The 2 full time cofounders Sandeep Koul and Siddhartha Das go back 24 years, met on the campus of IIM, Calcutta in 1999 and were best friends. Aditya Bharadwaj (part time) currently works for Google. He was leading engineering for a complex loyalty management platform for retail brands in Capillary Technologies when Siddhartha Das was the director of product between 2014 and 2017.
Why did you decide to start this company?
Sandeep and Siddhartha were keen on becoming entrepreneurs from their college days. With expertise in FMCG/consumer sales and building complex global tech platforms they decided to explore the biggest gap in the USD 150 bn grocery/FMCG distribution
